Visit of the Deputy Speaker of the Hungarian Parliament at the Royal Mausoleum
August is the month of birth of the beloved Queen Geraldine. The occasion for the Royal House to bring back into memory the official visit of the deputy speaker heading a group of members of the Hungarian Parliament to the Mausoleum of the Royal Family in Tirana.
On June 4th 2013, a delegation of the Hungarian Parliament*, headed by Mr Janos Latorcai, deputy speaker and accompanied by Mr Janosz Huszar, Hungarian Ambassador in Albania, visited the Mausoleum of the Royal Albanian Family where King Zog I, Queen Geraldine, King Leka I and Queen Suzan as well, lie at rest.
Mr Janosz Latorcai declared that the purpose of his visit in Albania was the participation to the closing event of an Hungarian-French - Albanian twinning project. The aim of the project was: Capacity building and strengthening of the institution of the Albanian Assembly. The 18 month long project was funded by the EU, implemented by more then 100 high level experts of the Hungarian and French Parliaments.
Mr Latorcai expressed his joy to visit the Royal Mausoleum which houses the grave of Queen Geraldine, native of Hungary, who remains, still nowadays, one of the symbols of the Albanian-Hungarian friendship.
Mr Latorcai emphasized the close links that exist between the two nations, especially those developped since 1938 through the Albanian Royal Family. He expressed the hope that these links and the good relations between Hungary and Albania will grown even stronger in the future.
HRH Prince Leka II thanked warmly the members of the Hungarian Parliament for their visit, and through them, the whole Hungarian people. HRH Prince Leka II assured that he was personally committed to the important issue of the strengthening of the relations between the two nations and expressed the hope that Hungary shall support Albania as a candidate country to enter the European Union.
